(Left to right) Cindy Ogana Rogoi, Fundraising & Communications Manager, Faraja Cancer Support Trust with Shaira Adamali, The Founding Trustee, Faraja Cancer Support Trust receive the sponsorship cheque from Grace Nganga Macharia, APA Apollo Group, Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications and Ashok Shah, CEO, APA Apollo Group for their upcoming fundraising children’s cancer walk. The BE BOLD and GO GOLD fundraising for childhood cancer run/walk will take place on Saturday 24th September 2022 at Karura Forest. “September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time of year we and other organizations honour children and survivors affected by pediatric cancer in order to raise awareness and continue the research and treatment of the disease,” said . Ashok Shah, CEO, APA Apollo Group. “The BE BOLD and GO GOLD fundraising is an excellent way to raise awareness and funds at the same time.” Faraja is actively involved in the support of children with cancer in Kenya through their crafts for cure program. Their art and music therapy began in 2015 and involves visiting children at pediatric oncology ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital. They started with about 50 children in one ward and now see about 400 children every week from seven different wards. Only 20% of children with cancer in Kenya survive compared to the 80% who live in developed countries. This can be attributed to the high cost of medicine, lack of proper community awareness, late diagnosis as well as the lack of specialized training.
